The Activator

An excellent alternative to manual chiropractic spinal manipulation for more sensitive chiropractic patients in Waynesboro, VA

If you enjoy the results you get from regular chiropractic adjustments, but don’t like the manual spine manipulation, there’s good news.

The Activator, invented in 1967 by Dr. Arlan Fuhr, is a handheld chiropractic tool that makes excellent spinal adjustments. According to the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners, about half of full-time chiropractors in the US use the Activator Method.

And with good reason!

With conventional chiropractic care, more sensitive patients tend to tense their muscles before a thrust is given which can make the adjustment slightly painful.

How The Activator Is Used

The Activator is used to treat back and neck pain, and headaches, including migraines, and to adjust joints in the extremities. It’s also used on pressure points of muscles to relieve spasming.

The Activator can be used in combination with traditional adjustments or alone.

What to Expect With An Activator Adjustment

Treatment is very simple and painless. Dr. Tyler will apply the Activator to the tissues near the affected joint.

There’s an initial pressure followed by a quick thrust—all while lying still. There is no twisting or turning as with traditional chiropractic adjustment.

With its controlled, localized force, the Activator Method does not compromise joints by bending or twisting the body.

Even better, the amount of force feels very light—much like getting your reflexes tested!

You’re in good hands!

Additional Training Required To Use The Activator Method

Not just anyone can use the Activator. Dr. Tyler received special training through Activator Methods International USA, which is training beyond traditional chiropractic education.

Is the Activator More Effective or Less Effective Than Classic Spinal Manipulation?

In the systematic review of eight small clinical trials using the Activator and high velocity, low amplitude manual manipulation (classic chiropractic technique), the National Institutes of Health, found there was no significant difference between the two in terms of outcome.

Why is that good news?

If you have an aversion to getting your “back cracked,” you can achieve the same excellent health outcome with the Activator Method as with a classic chiropractic adjustment.

All without twisting or bending!
